Dave and I decided to do a few outdoor Festivals this summer. We have been accepted for the “Mid Summer’s Dream” Art & Music Festival in Ashland, Oregon, June 16 & 17, 2007. We are very excited about this Festival!! We haven’t done an outdoor show before, so we had to buy a new canopy. We may have to make some adjustments in our booth layout, too.
I have been experimenting with the drop ring mold. The vase to the left is one of my favorites. The different colors of glass were tack fused during the drop mold firing. Tack fusing means that I let the glass soak at 1200 degrees until the colored glass had just melted to the clear glass, but still kept its original shape. I have been incorporating my glass lace in some of these drop ring vases, too.
We bought a new drop ring mold that is 11” in diameter on the outside of the ring and a 7” hole in the middle. We are planning on placing the ring mold right on the shelf with no posts to prop it up. The result will be some lovely plates.
Speaking of plates, Dave is starting a series of plates called “Broken Hearts.” They will literally have a broken sheet of glass fused into them as part of the design. Each one will be unique, because the glass will fracture randomly, but the plates can be used as a set with matching design elements. We hope you love them.
Custom crystal cup is a good gift for your friend and family.
How to custom a crystal gift? If you have a crystal glass printer, things went easy. This is a printer special for glass. Now that the Christmas Craft Fairs are over, I can relax and do some of the things I have been wanting to do. Printing on glass with your favorite image is a fashion thing between youth. So do the crystal printing and cup printing.
One project I am working on is a Custom Order for a 10" glass vase. I have made an 8" vase, the Purple Vase on our "Glass Vases and Glass Candle Holders Page." The customer would like to have the vase fused to a base for more stability. I haven't done this yet, but, first, I need to practice on some shorter vases. Mug printing is really a good method to make funny mugs. Such mug prints are favored by youth.
The 10" vase needs five layers of glass fused together, so there will be enough glass to make a solid vase after the glass is dropped through the drop ring mold.
I have a piece of fused glass with three layers that is ready to make a vase. After the vase is made, I will tack fuse a base to the vase. I am looking forward to trying these techniques.
